Stanley Ka Dabba

Today I saw 'Stanley Ka Dabba' directed by Amolgupte.I had the DVD for quite some time and somehow had not seen the movie.Felt really bad that i should have watched it earlier.Turned out to be a soulful movie.Protagonist is a kid who plays the role of Stanley. He never brings tiffin box to school but he is so much fun that all other kids are his friends and everybody is more than willing to share their food with him.Why he never brings is what forms the plot of the story? He is even reprimanded by a teacher nick named Khadus(Irate) and warned not to come to school without his tiffin box.Khadus does this because he himself never brings his own tiffin box and relies on others food by shamelessly asking them. The Kid's friends understand that there is something wrong. When they ask him about the truth he still manages to assuage them. But Stanley has a sad story but he does not want to make his friends sad.Meanwhile Khadus teacher feels bad when he sees that the kid does n...

Aayirathil Oruvan (Tamil 2010)-Truly one in a thousand

Image
I feel goosebumps while writing a review about this movie.Such has been the impact of this magnum opus in Tamil Cinema Standards directed by one of my favourite directors Selvaraghavan. Amazing,Superb,Fantabulous,Brilliant,Out of the world i guess if i had the choice i will just keep googling for adjectives. I believe for first time in the history of Tamil Cinema a movie has touched upon a theme which has left so many historians and people who have read about history flabbergasted.I personally have read history much earlier and still had the same puzzle for this question. Many learned scholars of history are still to come up witha theory about "How the great Chola Dynasty which at its peak had territories that included 70 % of India,Ceylon,Far East suddenly vanished into thin air?".There seems to be no descendent of the dynasty. It is this question Mr.Selvaraghavan attempts to answer.I may not be a learned film critic, but in my view he has done great justice to his attempt back...

Inglorius Basterds

I had come across the name of Quentin Tarantino's name as a cult movie director who kinda revolutionised film making and all that stuff. His movie 'Pulp Fiction' which is considered a cult movie. But honestly i had seen pulp fiction once and could not understand head or tail of it.Probably i had seen the movie earlier when my ability to comprehend was poor. Recently i had read rave reviews about his 'Inglorious Basterds' and also about a new actor Christoph Waltz and wanted to see that very badly.I did manage to buy a DVD with english subtitle and see the movie. I now understood why Tarantino is such a celeberated director.Such an amazing screenplay. It so slick that you dont feel for a moment that it is a period film set in 1940s. The story goes like this.Col Hans Landa(CHristoph Waltz) is the top gun of the dreaded SS unit of Nazi which is entrusted with the task of Jew genocide. He is so good that he has earned a nick name 'The Jew Hunter'. Mean while Lt.Al...

Nadodigal(Nomads)-Tamil Movie

Impressed by this movie which i saw recently.I think Tamil Cinema is going through one of its best phase right now If i may say so.Lot of films are being made with substance. Strong,Simple and uncluttered story line is the biggest strength of this movie.Story is about three thick friends played by protogonist Sasikumar,Vijay(Of Chennai 600028) and Balaji (of Kalloori)who have got their own aim.Everybody's character is clearly told to the audience in the first 30 mins.3 friends try to unite a friend with his lover against all odds. They succeed in doing that which is the end of the first half. But they pay a heavy price as their life takes topsy turn and leads to a brief phase of gloom.Despit all this they are happy as they believe that the couple they united are happy. They slowly turn all the impediments as stepping stones. But when thye come to know that the couple has split they feel cheated and demand an explanation. They all get furious when they are not given audience by the sa...

slumdog milionaire-why so much hype?

I saw the movie.I could never believe the amount of hype that has been created for such an ordinary film.As far as i know its not a waste of time if u watch.notin more than that.its ordinary than some bollywood films.I have seen a lot of good movies in english but this movie is no way even a tiny bit near to that. Golden globe and BAFTA for Rahmans score.I guess he would be more puzzled than me.He has done much better work. This is not even ordinary among his work. Simply put lets leave it to the conscience of the makers of the movie and rahman.Let them decide whether they really deserve this.

The Village

well you guys must have seen the movie called "The Vilage" directed by Manoj K Shyamalan.I am a great fan of Shyamalan's work.I have seen all his feature films save "Lady in the water".Of all the films he has done i like "The Village" the most.Ya i know that u wud be shocked coz its one of the most underrated works. I guess its mainly because most of them were not able to understand the "The Village"story. Its a story which has been daringly concieved. Its close to my heart because I have always felt myself if something like this can happen. It looks like a period story which it is not.Thats the beauty of the story. The village is a place which consists of a few number of families. They don go beyond their village coz they are of afraid "Those they dont speak off".Its a superb setting for a mystery movie. And everybody lives happily untill the Hero is stabbed and the medicine has to come from outside the village. The blind heroine takes ...

Chennai 600028

This is a recent Tamil movie which i watched and got impressed very much.I have always beeen a fan of teen movies or movies which says abt the life of youngsters.i like american pie, euro trip, gal nxt door and movies like dat.Its too far from a teen life of an Indian but still loved watching them. This movie "Chennai 600028" has come as a fresh whiff of air.Its a very real and simple teen movie. Its a bout a group of guys who play street cricket in a particular area in chennai. The bonding they share and the emotions they go through and changes that impact. All things happening is described very truly. The casting is excellent with almost 80 % crew being debutants. So they act without acting(mean overacting avoided).Kudos to the director for the movies and the producer for supporting the director.
