Stanley Ka Dabba

Today I saw 'Stanley Ka Dabba' directed by Amolgupte.I had the DVD for quite some time and somehow had not seen the movie.Felt really bad that i should have watched it earlier.Turned out to be a soulful movie.Protagonist is a kid who plays the role of Stanley. He never brings tiffin box to school but he is so much fun that all other kids are his friends and everybody is more than willing to share their food with him.Why he never brings is what forms the plot of the story? He is even reprimanded by a teacher nick named Khadus(Irate) and warned not to come to school without his tiffin box.Khadus does this because he himself never brings his own tiffin box and relies on others food by shamelessly asking them. The Kid's friends understand that there is something wrong. When they ask him about the truth he still manages to assuage them. But Stanley has a sad story but he does not want to make his friends sad.Meanwhile Khadus teacher feels bad when he sees that the kid does not come to school. One day Stanley says he has a surprise.Next day he brings a big tiffin box and offers it to Khadus.Khadus breaksdown and resigns and he leaves behind a emotional apology letter to Stanley.Stanley participates in a workshop and puts up a great display in the play acted by kids selected from different schools. The show gets over and all the parents leave and we find that Stanley's parents have passed away and he is at the mercy of his uncle who makes him work in his hotel.Stanley is a child labour. The tiffin box he brings is actually excess food from his uncle's hotel given by Akram who is only friend in his workplace.Stanley continues to bring food in the same fashion and offers it to everyone in the school.Though his mother is no more he continues to tell stories about his mother as if she is alive.Realistic Characters, natural acting especially by the Kids.Even though its a heavy subject it is not too preachy or sad.It also shows how our school is more focused on rote learning and does not encourage creativity.Fourth grade students asked to do a project  about Global warming which is beyond their comprehension. When Stanley makes a replica of Ligthhouse with water a miniature boat and real small fish he is reprimanded by the teacher. This scene clearly reflects the rigidity and stupidity of our education system.Definitely can go as Oscar entry from India but unfortunately Aamir Khan is not the producer(then even C%$3&y will go for Oscars).
