Minnal Murali - A super Hero Film ,India Can be proud of

Minnal Murali
A Super Hero film from India which we all can be proud of.(Unlike the ones like Krish, Mugamoodi etc which looked too shallow, sometimes cheesy and seemed to try too much even when watching trailor)

Just finished watching the movie in Netflix.

Set in 80s-90s timeframe in nondescript  village in Kerala, the director Basil Joseph takes us through a brilliant and highly satisfying and enjoyable Superhero movie .
Vilage has 2 ordinary characters who are struck by a powerful lightening and miraculously survive it.Only later they realise that they now possess superhero powers because of that.Life and situations take them in different directions with one becoming a Hero and the other a villain.
Brilliant screenwriting as the story starts in a normal and humorous way and slowly shows the Hero and Villain getting to know about their superpowers. As it slowly leads upto a situation where Villain feels wronged by the entire village hold them all to hostage.Needless to say the Hero saves them all but how he does that is also interestingly conveyed.
Another great thing about screenwriting is the humor laced throughout even in seemingly serious situation which is an important element in Hollywood Superhero Movies we have seen.

Cinematography is just mind-blowing with some  breathtaking visuals. Some scenes and the lighting (especially some shot in night)are so poetic that it makes us want to  take a freeze frame and hang it as a painting in living room.
Casting is spot on.The Villain character Shibu is not evil per se but more complex where he feels wronged and takes revenge.Honestly it requires a much better actor with emotions involved compared to that of Hero. And Gurusundaram is one of the best actors in my view today and he is just simply amazing.Like another reviewer pointed his acting and characterization makes one feel bad for the villain when he meets his end. There the actor and the director wins.
Tovino Thomas as Jaison /MinnalMurali has acted knowing his limitations which the Director uses it well.He moves from being a selfish loafer into a Superhero who cares about his people and the transition is well done at the end.Given his amazing physique he suits well.

The small kid Vashish Umesh , playing the character of nephew of the Hero  is a brilliant one.It takes a dig at Superhero movie where normally the guru who makes the Hero realises his powers in Hollywood is usually a older person.

Another good thing in this movie is women are not seen as damsel in distress (except for Villain's love interest)in this movie with the Heroine set as a Martial Arts instructor(Femina George) capable of beating even a male. She also plays her part in saving the people from an explosion.Since the Hero is a male chracter , there is nothing much for women folk in this story as expected. But the role played by Sister and Villains love are realistic.

Supporting roles like one played by Baiju as Inspector, Aju as Pothan the bro in law and Balachandra as foster father varkey of Hero stand out.

Music is very well done by Sushin Shyam. Songs as well as BGM was very well made and makes the film even a better experience aurally as well.
All chracters are well made and they remain in our memories irrespective of the screen time.

Minnal Murali doesn't seem like Minimal(Lowbudget) Murali but rather a Mega Murali.
Don't miss it.Its a shame that it did not come on big screens.Hope they do the second one with a larger budget and release it in theaters.
